Zinfra to deliver the Roma West Phase 2B stage of Santos’ GLNG coal seam gas field

Murphy Pipe and Civil contracted Zinfra to deliver the Roma West Phase 2B stage of Santos’ GLNG coal seam gas field approximately 450 kilometres west of Brisbane, 35 kilometres north east of Roma.

A one-stop-shop, Zinfra has the capabilities to self-perform the whole scope of electrical installation from the high voltage overhead lines, the underground high voltage installations and the E&I (electrical and instrumentation) work on the skids. Along with skilled labour, Zinfra also has the plant and equipment to work well in this rugged environment.

On this project 680 power poles, over 70 kilometres of overhead conductor and more than 50 kilometres of underground cable have been installed, making it one of Zinfra’s most significant projects in the oil and gas industry in Queensland to date.

The main challenges on this project include the weather, where it can get from zero degrees to 40 degrees in one day, and getting gear and equipment to the remote site. Managing lead times on procurement, maintaining productivity and meeting milestone dates has been logistically challenging.

With the rough terrain the crews need to have their wits about them so they stay safe and work to the conditions. Project Manager, Ben Thomson says, ‘We pride ourselves on being a safe contractor with our priorities being ‘Safety First’ and we can proudly say we’ve had zero LTIs and MTIs on this project’.
